Oil Painting

In order to enable students interested in learning oil painting to clearly understand and learn the expression techniques and painting procedures of European traditional oil paintings, the oil painting class starts from basic still life sketching and modeling, and takes the classical oil painting multi-layer painting, transparent painting and direct painting as the basis of the course and matches it with oil painting appreciation and analysis courses, leading students to learn the flexible use of oil paintings from the three major oil painting techniques in the practical courses. Students will learn to utilize oil paintings flexibly through the three major oil painting techniques in the hands-on courses, understand the painting process behind the exquisite techniques of the classical masters, and then express their own thoughts and emotions through oil paintings. The aim is to turn oil painting into an artistic language for students to express their observation, creativity and uniqueness.

This course starts from the basics of oil painting still life, and teaches students step by step according to their needs: through structural still life modeling depiction teaching, supplemented by teacher demonstrations and practical exercises for students to experience the three traditional oil painting techniques of the classical masters. Through teacher demonstrations and oil painting appreciation courses, students will gradually become familiar with the oil painting medium, canvas, various blending oils and color characteristics of pigments, from the base color, the extension of the concept of sketching, the color palette, the color sequence.... Students will be guided into the world of oil painting, develop good and correct painting habits, and experience and learn the multi-layered painting methods of traditional oil painting.

Students will be taught to paint still life, flowers, animals, landscapes, people, and other subjects, from simple to complex still life compositions, so that students will be familiar with the concepts of oil painting's color palette (cool, warm, complementary, contrasting colors) and the use of intermediate tones (shades of gray). At the same time, students will experience the dramatic expression of light and shadow, geometric perspective, air perspective and other spatial expression concepts, and learn to grasp the overall atmosphere of the painting.

This course is suitable for teenagers, high school students, or adults with drawing skills. This course is open to all.
